White water category I:

Water: 

  • Regular current
  • Regular waves
  • Small swell

River bed: Simple obstacles in the current Small steps

Examples:

  • AMMER (Rottenbuch - Peißenberg at marker 90 in Weilheim)
  • ISAR (Bad Tölz - Wolfratshausen at marker 65 in Bad Tölz)

White water category II:

Visibilty: Unrestricted passage

Water: 

  • Not regular current
  • Not regular waves
  • Middle swell

River bed:

  • Individual blocks,steps
  • Other obstacles in the current

Examples:

  • AMMER ( from natural weir Rottenbuch at marker 90 in Weilheim)
  • OBERE ISAR (Hinterauthal at marker 180 in Scharnitz)

White water category III:

Visibilty: Clear passage

Water: 

  • Swell rolls
  • Whirlpools and compressed water

River bed:

  • Blocks scattered in the current
  • High steps with undertow

Examples:

  • AMMER (Scheibum and natural weir at marker 90 in Weilheim)
  • INN (Imster gorge at marker 200 in Haiming)

White water category IV:

Visibilty:

  • Passage not easily recognizable
  • Exploration mostly necessary

Water: 

  • High swell
  • Strong rolls
  • Whirlpools and compressed water

River bed:

  • Narrow passages
  • High steps with difficult entries or exits

Examples:

  • LOISACH (Dom and Treppenhaus at marker 120 Gschwandtsteg)
  • ÖTZTALER ACHE (Forest gorge at marker 120 in Tumpen)

White water category V:

Visibilty: Exploration vital

Water: 

  • Extreme swell
  • Extreme rolls, whirlpools and compressed water

Examples:

  • INN (Brail gorge at marker 110 in Tarasp)
  • SENNA (Scharfes Eck from marker 160 in Landeck)

White water category VI:

Generally impossible, possibly navigable at certain water markers.

Examples:

  • ENNS (Gesäusse eingang,NW)
  • RUETZBACH KATARAKT (Pegel Medraz 120)
  • ÖTZ(Längenfeld -Umhausen,Pegel Tumpen 120)
