Licence niobligation
All boats with a fuel driven engine, and electric drive of more than 4.4 kWUp to 2.21 kW (3 hp) - requires small craft permit, above 2.21 kW - requires licence number plateAll boats with mechacal drive and minimum length of 250 cm if mechanically driven

On inland waterways, below 15 m length, and more than 11 kW (15 hp) „Sportboot-Führerschein - Binnen“ is required.For motorboats with a power of more than 6 kW (8 hp) certification is obligatory. The minimum age for being in charge of a motorboat of below 6 kW is 14 years, and 18 years for boats of more than 6 kW.
